Está no auge, muita gente comentando sobre o filme, etc. Nastala chyba při přehrávání videa. Dojem z obrazově působivého úvodu a zajímavé, modernistické typografie titulků vydrží asi první půl hodinu, kdy se ještě zdá, že by Neviditelný život Eurídice Gusmãové mohl mít sám nad sebou nadhled. Čím déle jej ale divák sleduje, tím víc se obává, že už žádné další překvapení nepřijde a vskutku. Jedná se totiž o variaci na klasický žánr jihoamerických kinematografií, melodrama, která je sice současná tím, že dává hlas a osobnost ženským hrdinkám (což je fajn, i když postavy Eurídicina otce a manžela se už pohybují na hraně karikatury), ale ve vztahu k žánrovým konvencím zůstává velmi tradiční. Navíc je to celé napsané a poskládané tak, že jsem nebyl schopen si k postavám vybudovat vztah a následně ronit slzy nad jejich osudy, celé je to jak kdyby příliš vypočítané na základě toho, co se od takového filmu očekává a přitom ve výsledku cítím jen odstup. Viz finální sekvenci s objevením dopisů, která přichází z ničeho nic po padesáti letech, trvá asi dvacet minut, a každému musí být od začátku jasné, k čemu při ní dojde. Překvapuje mě, že takový film vyhrál sekci Un Certain Regard a vlastně mě mrzí, jak na mě (ne)zapůsobil, dost jsem se na něj těšil. (6. 7. 2019) POMO Odloučení, které nemuselo být. Příběhově pro mě nejsilnější film letošního Cannes. Snímek, na který bych po přečtení synopse nešel, ale po vítězství v sekci “Jiný pohled” zvědavost neodolala. S emocema nepracuje hollywoodsky přímočaře. Bolest a lítost, kterou cítíte k postavám neroní slzy, ale těží na srdci, až dusí. A nepomůžete si, protože nemáte jak pomoct postavám. Krásný film. Ústředním motivem je zde patriarchální útlak, rozehraný na příběhu dvou sester, které od sebe byly nešťastně odloučeny. Úplně zbytečně, jen kvůli zlovůli mužů kolem nich. The lies of extremally conservative parents, the superb and envy of Eurídice's husband, the suffering in maternity, the crucial solidarity between desperate women - all of it built a strong indignation and, at last, everybody cries in the end: a real tragic one. Fernanda Montenegro is an acting gem.
With technical maestry, Karim's team guides the movie in a raw way. The cinematography of Hélène Louvart is outstanding capturing old, green and dirty Rio de Janeiro. Karim's directing choices are really touching and carry a whole bunch of social issues with flow. The cello and piano from Benedikt Schiefer are as unsettling as the character's obstacles.
I hope that when women (especially older ones) watch this movie, they identify themselves and keep fighting against the male authoritarianism, fighting for freedom.
I hope that when men watch this movie, they identify in themselves traces of sexism to keep changing, to keep evolving and encouraging other ones to be better.
It's definitely an incredible and important movie that answers the questions above with some of the multiple possibilites, multiple realities that exist. It's a must see.

Just got back from seeing it; quite a sobering movie esp with the craziness of work and the materialistic holidays. I didnt want to stop watching it. Malick & Widmer really make you feel like you were there in those ordinary moments as a farmer. Former brings back his favorite theme of family: screenplay like from Tree of Life. Thiel's character really inspires us to do the right thing and live life by morals/principles. His wife was so beautiful/enduring as a mother + wife and wise especially. She (and their love) was the one who made her husband a good man.
